The chat!

The chat
The chat is back in a new and improved version and is avalible for all logged in sellers on Mostphotos.

The new chatbar is located at the bottom of the screen when you login and it contains all your private chats as well as the public chat where all members can talk to each other. You will also find a list of all your online friends to the left and the ability to search for other members to chat with. Click the chat link next to the users avatar to start a private chat with the user.

Try it and report any bugs you may find to the support staff att Mostphotos.com.

Server move and downtime
We will be moving our servers to a new location in Stockholm tomorrow so we will have some downtime for a few hours. The new location will provide us with better uptime and a much faster internet connection and it will enhance the experience for our American members.

Faster index and some interface updates

Okay it's Monday and time for some new updates.

Interface updates
One of the biggest changes you will notice is the interface updates to the settings and sales pages. We have added some more information and made them a bit easier on the eye with some new graphics. There has been some complaints about the avatar upload so we made it a bit easier to use in this version. The new upload will auto crop your image to a square in the middle so if you want to make a custom avatar, please upload a square image so you don't loose any part of the image.

We have also added some extra features to the cart and quick buy to make sure that our invoice customers doesn't forget to login before completing a purchase and the interface got a small make over as well.

Faster index updates
The speed of the index that ranks images for the search and top list has been greatly improved in the new version. This means that we can have a more up to date ranking in the top lists (updated every 30 minutes or so) in stead of the current 4h periods. This also means less stress on our servers and improved performance.

And as always, we have made a lot of bug fixes and performance improvements.

Things to come
Okey, so what's in the pipe line for the next few weeks? First of all i want to inform you that the chat is almost done. The planned beta release on Wednesday is still on schedule and we will do our best to meet that deadline. We will contact all of you that have signed up  to help us beta test the chat and give you some more information when we get closer to the release.

We will also do a lot of performance updates on the site to improve the load times from the US and other countries outside Europe. There are also a lot more interface updates planned for this month.

Search and sorting updates

We have made some big updates to our search and sorting system the last few weeks and the new system is up and running now. I have listed the biggest changes below but we have also resolved a lot of minor bugs and user complains.

Searching and albums
We have replaced our search engine with a new one. This will fix all the sorting problems we had earlier and all your images will show up in the albums. The new search system will return much better results than the old one and will greatly improve the buying experience on the site.

Sorting settings and the adult filter

There is also a warning if any images are hidden due to the adult filter. Your settings for nr of images to display and for the adult filter will be saved and used for all view pages on the site. All other settings will be restored to the default values once you leave the result page.

We have also added a information bar and made some changes to the paging bar to make the navigation a bit easier.

Toplist and latest
We have also resolved the problems with the top list and "Latest images". Latest will now only show one photo / photographer to make the selection a bit more interesting. The toplist will be recalculated every 4 hours so it can take some time for your new images to show up.

Uploading and updating
You are now able to update your images to a newer version. We have added a extra tab on the view page for this feature. We have added an error log for the upload system so you can see what went wrong if any of your images should fail the upload requirements even if you use the FTP or Flash uploader. Note that it can take up to 10 minutes before your published images show up on the site and in your albums, this is due to the new search system.

No more IE6 and some downtime

No more Internet Explorer 6
We have decided to drop support for Internet explorer 6 on the new version simply because IE6 lacks support of many of the new features that we wanted to implement.
Read more here

So if you are still using Internet explorer 6, please upgrade to a latest version (IE8) or download a even better browser like Chrome, Firefox or Safari. This will greatly enhance your browsing experience.

Downtime
We will also have some downtime this Saturday because of server upgrades. The site will be down for at least a few hours. We will upgrade all the servers so we would recommend you to not use the FTP upload on Saturday to prevent any canceled uploads.

And as always, please follow us on Facebook or Twitter for the latest updates.

The new upload system

The upload system is one of our key features and we have put a lot of work in to making it as easy as possible to use. It doesn´t matter if you have 10 000 pretagged images with EXIF-info or if you just want to upload a single photo, you will be able to publish all your images within minutes and with a minimal amount of work.

Uploading images
The new version of mostphotos will support 3 types of upload methods; Flash, HTML and FTP.

The flash uploader will allow you to select and upload as many files as you want right on the site. But if you are going to upload more than 100 images we recommend that you use the FTP account that you get when you register at Mostphotos. You will also be able to upload one file at a time with the HTML uploader if you do not want to use the flash or FTP upload for some reason.

Image processing
Your image will be queued for processing as soon as it is completely uploaded to Mostphotos via any of the upload methods. So if you are uploading to the ftp, you don't need to visit the site to start the import any more. And your photos will appear on the tagging site as soon as they are processed. So you can start working while our severs work on the remaining images.

A progressbar will be visible on the site while you are browsing around that shows how many images are in waiting to be processed and how many that are ready for tagging. You might have to wait a few minutes if there are a lot of people uploading photos at the same time but we will show you a ETA on the processing and send you an email once all the images have been processed. So you can spend your time doing more creative stuff than waiting for a progressbar to finish.

Image tagging
Okey, so we made the uploading a lot easier but tagging images is still one of the most time consuming tasks in uploading photos. But we have really made some huge improvements to our system and it's actually pretty fun to tag images on Mostphotos 3.0.

We know a lot of you are using Lightroom, Aperture or other programs to add your keywords and descriptions and we have made it even easier for you to upload. You can simply upload all of your hundreds of thousands of photos using one of our upload systems and then just jump pass the tagging stage and go directly to "publish images". Our system will recognize that your uploaded images contains all the info we need to publish them and will not ask you to go trough them in the tagging system. You can still retag the pretagged images using our tagging system if you want to change the name for example but the important thing is, you don't have to.

So once all your 2000 images are uploaded to the ftp account and you have received the email that the image processing is done, simply go to the publish page and click "Publish now" and you are done. It doesn't get much easier than that.

But back to the tagging system. We really think the new tagging system is a big improvement over the existing system. It's a bit hard to describe so I will show you instead.

Just remember that this is a early preview of the system but it still pretty sweet, isn't it ? =)
